Writing skills need to be worked on each and every day. Once a writing piece has been created, the student should always be required to edit his work and rewrite it with the corrections in place.
I used the EC Daily Writing with my students several times a week. These pages offer an editing sentence to fix and rewrite, along with additional writing skills such as answering a question with a complete sentence answer or writing a short paragraph about a picture. You can most certainly create pages like these for use in your classroom. Or, you can hold up a picture and ask your students to write a short paragraph about it.
After writing, have a few of the students read the paragraph aloud. As each student reads, remind him to add the editing marks for anything he finds that needs to be fixed. Students who are in the habit of adding the editing marks to the written work will become more aware of fixing things for the final draft.
Education Creations has a full set of Daily Writing for students in Grades K to 6. You can view a sample on our website.
