Should I teach a new word daily or weekly in vocabulary?

Older students can certainly learn a new word on a daily basis. Wrap a short lesson around the word and then be sure to use the word as often as you can for the next several days or weeks.

A fun way to enhance the lesson: Prepare several sentences with the word and randomly use the sentences during the next few days. Tell students that you will be using the word in some sentences for the next few days and have students listen for the word. When a student raises his hand stating that he heard the word, ask, "What does this word mean?" or "What part of speech is this word?" Reward the student if you wish with a small token reward or a certificate.

Here is a certificate that you can use for students who recognize the word of the day (or week) in a sentence you prepared for this purpose.

Happy Teaching!
