A wonderful mother of an autistic child contacted me a few years ago to inform me that she finally found an answer to help her son with reading comprehension. She explained that she had tried many things over the years, but that trying the EC Little Books finally helped him. She told me that she believed the easy format is what made the difference for her child.
The Little Books are set up so that the content/story is on the left side of the page and the questions are on the right side.. This makes it very easy for the child to go back and forth from the story to the questions to verify information. Often times, comprehension work is set up so that the questions are on the backside of a sheet. Something as simple as a change in the format of reading material can make all the difference for some students.
If your students are struggling with comprehension, try one of these EC Little Books. It just might be the answer for them, too!
(Please be sure to use Adobe Reader to open this EC Little Book...the browser's built-in reader does not always open things correctly.)
